Free Word Family Game: Uno (short a)

I'g edifice up my drove of hands-on give-and-take family unit fun.  To add to our other short a printables, I created this free word family unit game: Uno!

Lately my Four and Six have been obsessed with the classic Uno game.

Since I'one thousand teaching my Four to read by starting with short a word families, I designed this game with him in listen. Withal, I speedily discovered that this is best for someone who can read these families with more speed.  The game required too much concentration for him to enjoy.   I'll endeavor once again in a few months.

But my Half dozen?She loved it.

UPDATE: This game gives reading practice with analytic phonics instruction. Analytic phonics is when you apply known words or word parts (such as word families) as analogies for figuring out words. Many children practice very well with analytic phonics instruction, and this game is nifty for reading practise. However, as I acquire more than about the science of reading, I now adopt to start with synthetic phonics instruction. You tin larn more about that in this video blog mail service.

Free Word Family Game

How to play:

1. Bargain 5 cards to each player.
2. Turn over the top card from the deck.
3. The first role player looks to see if one of his cards matches the turned-up card: it can match in color or word family.  If a card matches, he sets information technology on top andreads it aloud.  If the role player has no matching card in his hand, he draws one card from the deck. He tin can play that card if it matches.
4. Players can play a "skip," "reverse," or "draw 2" card if information technology matches the color of the upturned menu.  If a player plays a "skip" bill of fare, the side by side player loses a turn.  If he plays a "reverse" card, the direction of play reverses.  If he plays a "describe 2," the next player draws ii cards and does not become to play a card on his turn.
5. Players tin can play "Wild" cards at any time.  When doing then, they should name the new word family that players must match.
6. When a player has one card left, he says "Uno."
7. The first player to play all his cards wins!

The deck consists of 99 cards:

• 80 word family unit cards  (10 cards for each word family: ab, at, ack, advertizing, am, ag, an, ap)
• 5 Draw 2 cards (red, yellow, orange, green, blue)
• v Skip cards (red, yellow, orange, greenish, blueish)
• 5 Reverse cards (crimson, yellow, orange, green, blue)
• four Wild cards

Here's  a sample page from the download.  If y'all'd like a airship pattern on the dorsum of your cards (see the photograph to a higher place), impress pages 2-23 front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use).

If you lot just want the fronts of the cards, you will demand to impress only the even-numbered pages.
